Reading Thai

Reading Thai is the first app to give a complete introduction to the Thai script.  If you want to actually start reading real words in Thai, then this is the app for you.  Learn how syllables are constructed and learn how each component of a syllable affects it’s sound.  You’ll learn over 350 vocabulary words and hear each word spoken by a native Thai.

Reading Thai includes:

  • All 44 consonants and their classes.
  • Different sounds made at the beginning and end of syllables for each letter.
  • Images to illustrate each consonant’s full name.
  • Long and short vowels with alternate forms.
  • Tone and punctuation marks and their uses.
  • Thai numerals.
  • Rules for determining tones of syllables.
  • Rules for letter combination and irregular words.
  • Phonics-style reading practice with audio.

Read signs and menus in Thai on your next trip to Thailand!  Make your life as an ex-pat in Thailand easier with reading skills!  Say goodbye forever to “karaoke” Thai and flawed transliteration schemes!  Get your sounds and tones right every time by reading Thai in Thai!

Now available for use on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

I bought this app just an hour ago. It is useful but there is some delay until it is loaded. To the next page or to listen the voice. Will u please make this faster and response spontaneously? Thanks

    • Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately the sound and image files in this app use up a lot of memory. So if you are using an older model of iPhone such as the iPhone 3G, it might slow down. On the newer models that have more RAM, such as the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, the app runs much faster. If I can find a way to make it run faster in the future I will do so.

I realise your website header states “Making great iPhone apps”, but nevertheless I have to ask, is there any chance of a port to Android? Your app looks really cool, and I would gladly pay for the privilege; also, while there are several Thai alphabet apps of varying quality available for the iPhone, as yet there are none for the Android marketplace.

    • Thanks for your interest in my app. For now, though, I have no plans to develop for Android. The amount of time I have available for making apps is quite limited, as I have two other jobs I work at, so I’m going to focus on making more iOS apps for the time being.

agreed with Jonathan…we’re a growing number of people using Android phones, thanks already for your great website, I hope that one day you’ll have time to developp for us too 🙂

        take care, Chok dee krap,
